Are You Too Needy? A Quiz From Your Gay Best Friend

When it comes to relationships, do you demand too much – or not enough? As usual, our gay BFF has all the answers.

-Brian Clark

Needy

Welcome to my soon-to-be patented Neediness Quiz. For people who are in a relationship, or want to be in one, it may be the most important test you’ll ever take. It’s certainly more important than any LSAT or GRE, or even a BMI (Body Mass Index, for those of you blessed with good genes or a fast metabolism).

For most mature adults, neediness is a huge turn-off. When someone (yes, even me) makes constant demands or acts hurt or upset all the time, it creates a sense of obligation in their partner (yuck!), feelings of frustration (“No matter what I do, she’s never happy!”) and makes the needy person seem desperate, which is never hot (unless, of course, it’s in a Madonna-“Burning Up”-and-rolling- around-on-the-pavement kind of way).

Take it from me, neediness is not the vibe any self-respecting gal wants to give off. How needy are you, really? To find out, answer the following ten questions and calculate your score. Don’t cheat– I’ll be watching!

1. Dating is…

a) for the weak.
b) like a migraine.
c) something that requires a constant supply of new clothes.
d) all I ever talk about.
e) a career path.

2. After a third date I expect the guy to…

a) call, or not.
b) disappoint me like all the rest.
c) start calling me by some cute nickname.
d) make me waffles.
e) marry me and whisk me off to his castle.

3. If I were a guy I would…

a) work out more and talk less.
b) be fine with the idea of my spouse making more than me.
c) ignore the “24-hour rule” if I really liked a girl.
d) do repairs at my girlfriend’s mother’s house more often.
e) be able to quote When Harry Met Sally, verbatim.

4. When a guy calls my cell phone, I am usually…

a) in another room doing something intellectually stimulating.
b) asleep.
c) on the other line with a friend, talking about him.
d) waiting to answer on the first ring.
e) jumping up and down in a fit of joy because he finally called after I spent the whole day waiting in the most cell-receptive corner of my apartment.
